Future Health Systems is pleased to announce the launch of a new film, produced by the FHS India team - Are Women of the Indian Sundarbans Living in the Dark? This film was based on a joint study by FHS and Research in Gender and Ethics (RinGs): Building Stronger Health Systems.
World-wide, women experience a higher burden of visual impairments than men, and this increases with age. This short film highlights the gendered dimension of seeking eye health care in the Indian Sundarbans - a climatically vulnerable setting.
It documents an intersectional approach to explore how gender cross cuts with other social determinants of health - such as age, poverty, education and risky behaviours - to influence the prevalence of visual impairments among women and men 50 years and above in the Indian Sundarbans.
