Future Health Systems is a research consortium working to improve access, affordability and quality of health services for the poor. We are a partnership of leading research institutes from across the globe working in a variety of contexts: in low-income countries (Bangladesh, Uganda), middle-income countries (China, India) and fragile states (Afghanistan) to build resilient health systems for the future. After a successful first five-year phase from 2006-2011 (see our success stories), we are entering a new six-year phase of research, funded mainly by UK aid.

Knowledge for action on equity in health in Uganda

Future Health Systems

Makerere University, School of Public Health and HEPS Uganda – Coalition for Health Promotion and Social Development organised this meeting which was held in Kamapala in March 2008.

The meeting aimed to assess the progress of equity in health in Uganda. It reviewed gaps and needs in the Ugandan health sector, to feed into and draw from experience in East and Southern Africa.

FHS presented two sessions at the conference.

1. Changes in Utilisation of Health Services among Poor and Rural Residents in Uganda (Elizabeth Ekirapa)
2. Access to and Utilisation of Health Services for the Poor and Vulnerable in Uganda: A systematic Review of Available evidence (Susanne Kiwanuka)
