Photo voice enables participants to document, share and analyse their realities through photographs. In having the power to frame images, marginalized people can represent themselves in transformative ways. We explore experiences of photo voice in participatory health systems research in Uganda, Zambia and regional east and southern Africa, and India, where communities have used photography to express and analyse their realities in health, and to communicate and act on them.
