Poverty
The FHS RPC believes that poverty is not just an issue about social protection but also about access to health services. During the work of this RPC we aim to consider the poor in the broadest sense of the term. For example, a woman may be living in a household with a reasonable income but may not have access to that money.
We want to think about poverty at a community and a household level. For example in Nigeria we need to look at the different kinds of impact that Malaria has on different households. How frequent? how severe? If a household has only one income and this is taken away by illness, this will be devastating for those involved.
Each of the country proposals has an objective that addresses the issue of poverty. We will consider ‘How do we expect the poor to benefit from our work?’ Also, importantly, we will consider ‘Who will not benefit?’
